Before he became a CAREGiver at Home Instead, Jacob Mathew had provided care to friends and family from time to time, and their feedback was always encouraging: “Jacob – you should have studied medicine!”
Though he had eyed up a career in engineering and science, Jacob decided to work in care when the Covid-19 pandemic hit.
‘Do my part’
“I wanted to do my part to help and got an opportunity in healthcare working in Covid-19 vaccination and testing centred. I decided this would be the best way I could do my part and use my skills to help. Then I started working in home care, part-time, with Home Instead!
“I love the fact that I can provide individual care to each client, according to their needs and preferences. It’s the chance to make their day a bit brighter!
“It’s a busy job, but we can count on the support from our office team members, who are very accommodating and supportive. There is always someone available if I need assistance. I try to support the office team as much as they try to support me.”
